台灣虱目魚年產量約6萬公噸，8成以內銷為主，外銷量約1萬公噸，主要外銷美國、中東及中國大陸等地，對臺灣沿海地區經濟貢獻良多。高雄市岡山養殖漁業發展協會有鑑於虱目魚冬天容易被凍死，致力推廣虱目魚越冬科技，並設立養殖專區，養殖方式以虱目魚混養白蝦及泰國蝦為主，養殖期集中在12月到隔年5月，可以大幅降低寒害所帶來的損失，創造更多元產。

The annual production of Taiwan's milkfish is about 60,000 metric tons, 80% of which is mainly sold domestically, and the external sales volume is about 10,000 metric tons. It is mainly exported to the United States, the Middle East and mainland China, and has contributed a lot to the economy of Taiwan's coastal areas. The Kaohsiung City Okayama Aquaculture and Fisheries Development Association is committed to promoting the Milkfish wintering technology in the winter, in view of the fact that the milkfish is easily frozen in winter, and has established a breeding area. The breeding method is mainly based on the white-shrimp mixed with white shrimp and Thai shrimp. The breeding period is concentrated from December to May of the following year, which can greatly reduce the losses caused by cold damage and create more yuan production value.
